Covid-19 can be controlled!

The only vaccine to control coronavirus is to stay clean, maintain social distancing.

There is no specific medicine to prevent or treat Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) until 25 march 2020. People may need supportive care to help them breathe during this disease.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus disease) is an infectious disease caused by a new virus generated in China. The disease causes respiratory illness (like flu) with symptoms such as a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing in more severe cases. You can protect yourself by wearing a mask, washing your hands frequently, avoiding touching your face, and avoiding close contact (3 feet or 1 meter ) with unwell people.

Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience gentle to modest respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.  The people who are above the age of 60 (older people) and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.

A respiratory disease of unknown cause detected in Wuhan, China was first reported to the WHO Country Office in China on 31 December 2019. The outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on 30 January 2020.

How did it spread?

Coronavirus disease spreads firstly through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze or they touch another person or touches an object or surface that has the virus on it, then touches their eyes, mouth or nose.
The people who are infected may be sick with the virus for 1 to 14 days before developing symptoms. The most common symptoms are fever, tiredness, dry cough and difficulty in breathing. Most people recover from the disease without needing special treatment.

Older people, and people with other medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease or even cancer), maybe more vulnerable to becoming severely ill.

Here’s something we all can do to control coronavirus:

1. HANDS: Wash them often

Do wash your hands timely for 20 seconds, with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub for 20-30 times a day.

2. ELBOW: Cough into it

Cover your mouth and nose with a disposable tissue or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze so that it does not spread anywhere else.

3. FACE: Don’t touch it

Don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth or anywhere else on your face if your hands are not clean.

4. SPACE: Maintain social distancing

Avoid close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with unwell or infected people.

5 HOME: Stay in, Say safe

Stay home and self-isolate from others in the household if you feel unwell or consult a doctor, but wear a mask first.

Speaking at the COVID-19 media briefing, the Director-General who is an expert said:

“Although older people are the hardest hit, younger people are not spared.”The #coronavirus could put you in hospital for weeks, or even kill you. Even if you don’t get sick, the choices you make about where you go, meet people could be the difference between life and death for someone else.

There’s currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease (COVID-19). You can protect yourself and help prevent spreading the virus to others if you stay inside and quarantine. Eat food which boosts your immune system. Do self-care by staying at home.

If you have mild symptoms, stay at home until you’ve recovered, don’t go outside and spread the virus in others. You can relieve your symptoms if you do the self-care: rest and sleep, keep warm, drink plenty of liquids, use a room humidifier or take a hot shower to help ease a sore throat and cough.

Medical treatments?

If you develop a fever, cough, and have difficulty breathing, promptly seek medical care at first. Call in advance and tell your health provider about recent travel or recent contact with travelers, where you stay at travel.

In India, the total number of infections topped 500+ as PM Modi announced a complete lockdown for the entire country for 21 days, starting Tuesday midnight.

Before India’s lockdown, there were many countries that implemented mass quarantine like – China, France, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, and the UK. The UK went into full coronavirus lockdown, this Monday night. PM Boris Johnson said lockdown rules would be enforced by police. Countries around the world are implementing measures to slow down the spread of the coronavirus, from national quarantines to school closures to borders closures so far.

Wuhan, China, where the virus first appeared, has been locked down for more than six weeks, and many other Chinese cities are still facing travel restrictions.

Each one of us can make a difference. We are all in this together. Spread good vibes only. This shall pass too.

If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with the suspected 2019-nCoV infection.

Please wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing or use your elbow. Plus clean your hands from alcohol-based hand rub or sanitizer. Lastly, dispose of your mask properly.

Some WHO Myth-busters

There is a lot of false information around. These are the facts.

  • People of all ages CAN be infected by a coronavirus. People above the age of 60 (older people) and people with pre-existing medical conditions appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus.
  • Cold weather and snow CANNOT kill the coronavirus. Heat can reduce the virus effect. Don’t drink or eat cold food or water.
  • The coronavirus CAN be transmitted in areas with hot and humid climates. Take care by keeping yourself inside.
  • The coronavirus CANNOT be transmitted through mosquito or animal bites. There is NO evidence that animals/pets such as dogs or cats can transmit the coronavirus.
  • Taking a bath with hot water DOES NOT prevent the coronavirus.
  • Hand dryers or heaters are NOT effective in killing the coronavirus.
  • Antibiotics DO NOT work against coronavirus, antibiotics only work against bacteria.
